News and such
Awesome things first. I now have a proofing site for photo collections with a cart for people to buy prints. I'll be using this primarily for weddings and other kinds of events. For weddings, I like to sit down together and look at the photos and talk about ordering, so this will be more for family and friends that might like to see the whole gallery and purchase a photo from the wedding they attended.
For events I'll be posting all of the photos and guests can order prints from there. I really like this because it makes things a bit easier with a potentially large group of people.
The process is this: The client orders the photos they want, the order comes to me, I get the prints made (I have a preferred pro photo lab and I like to make sure they look exactly how I want them to when they arrive, so I fill the orders myself), I inspect them when they arrive, and then I get them to the client.
I'm really excited about it. I actually just put a big set of photos from Shimmies of the Southwest up. (There are special prices for that event because it was organized by a friend)

The craft show was fun, and I met some other local arty people in person that I have only seen around Etsy. In fact, I spoke with the shop owner from Clay Space about doing specials for product photography for local people that have shops on Etsy. There are a bunch of us. That would be fun. The challenge is to keep the price low enough that it helps them out without 'giving away the farm' (i.e. doing it for nothing). I really like the idea because I know better photos of products help them sell, and I like to help fellow artists. I have recently banned myself from doing anything else for free, however, so I have to come up with a reasonable price for this kind of work.
Other than that, the craft fair was pretty uneventful for me. A lot of people said they love my work, which is awesome. And quite a few people took my business card, which is also really great. I didn't have any sales though.
Since I have the stock now, from getting ready for that first craft show, I decided to do another one this past Saturday. This one was at the Octopus and the Fox and it was a fundraiser for UNMH infant ICU. Part of the proceeds from the booth fee went toward materials to make blankets for the babies. They also had a bake sale for the same. I love baking, so I made cookies for the bake sale. And again, I met some other locals with Etsy shops (LOOK at this shirt! I want it sooo bad.). And again, a bunch of people took business cards. This time, I made one sale, so that's good too.
So I didn't really do well sales-wise at the craft fairs, but I did meet a bunch of awesome people and hopefully something will come of getting some business cards out there.
I am about to put a whole bunch of things up on Etsy. Matted prints, a few framed photos, and more cards. I'm also planning to put up things like calendars, bags, magnets, and pendants. Those things are sort of in the works still though.
I think it might be time for me to start trying to get some of my photos and paintings into local spaces. Art spaces, shops or restaurants/cafes...I haven't ever tried to do that. To be honest, I have no idea how to go about it. I can't imagine it's as easy as asking...
Second post coming, with a couple of my favorite photos from Shimmies of the Southwest.

Hey there! Remember me?
Next Saturday I'll be at the KayDee Holiday Arts & Crafts Show & Jewelry Extravaganza. It's from 9 am - 4 pm at the Hilton Garden Inn at Uptown. Come on by and pay me a visit.
I'll be there with:
matted 8x10s
matted 5x7s
unmatted prints in various sizes
other forms of prints (metal, mounted on panels, framed)
my hard copy portfolio
my email list sign-up
You can purchase available prints on the spot, but if you see something and decide you'd like to have it bigger, you can place an order and I'll deliver it to you when it comes in. Handy, huh?
And, of course, you can talk to me about photographing your wedding or a portrait session. I'll have a section of the table devoted wedding and portraits, so you can watch a slideshow of wedding photos while you're there and look at my portfolio, which is a selection of prints of my work.
And as a reminder: From this post...
I'll have a coupon offer for portrait sessions for people who pay me and my booth a visit.
If you make an appointment on the spot, you will get a free 8x10 or 8x12 print from your session.
If you give my card to someone/refer someone to me and they make an appointment, you will get 10% off your next session fee.
Sign up for my email list at the booth, and I'll give you a lollipop. :) Plus, you know, exclusive offers sent to your email (probably once or twice a month). Oh, who knows...maybe I'll throw in something else too. ;)
